Meet Salama!

Hi

My name is Salama. I am in Standard One and I go to Steven Tito Academy. I am going to tell you about my day.

I get to school at 8:00. I take the bus to school with 12 other students.

Here I am arriving at school
In the morning we sing a song to greet everyone. Then we sing different songs like Hokey Pokey, The Rainbow Song or BINGO!

Singing the morning song
Before we go into the classroom we line up outside. The straightest and quietest line gets to go in first.

Every morning we read with our teacher. We choose a book from the bookboxes and the teacher helps us sound out the words. We take the book home to practise.

Reading with my teacher
We also practise our spelling words. We have a spelling test every Friday. Last week, I passed the Golden words and now I am learning the Red words.
Reading out my spelling words
Here I am in class. It's 8:45. Everyone is listening to the teacher. We are reading a book called 'In the Tall, Tall Grass'. It has lots of rhyming words. We are learning about rhyming words.

Now, I am working with my group. We are practising the letters of the alphabet. I closed my eyes and chose a letter. I felt the letter and guessed which letter it was. Now my partner Maimuna is telling me if I was right.
Playing 'Feely letters'

After reading and writing it is time for break. We have break at 10:30. We drink porridge and then we have 20 minutes to play.

We start Maths at 11:00. This week we are learning about time. I am learning the word 'o'clock'. We all listen to our teacher and then we split up into small groups.

This is how you show 2 o c'lock on a clock.
After Maths it's time for Art. Sometimes we paint, sometimes we draw and sometimes we make things out of paper. Today we are painting flower pots. We will grow flowers in the pot.

At 1:30 it's time for lunch. We sit in a big banda to eat our lunch together. After we eat we have to wash our plates and stack them ready for tomorrow.

Eating lunch in the banda. Today we are having potato, cassava and tomato.
After we have eaten and washed out plates we play until 2:30. Sometimes we play netball or football or we play on the swings. Today I am skipping.

Here I am skipping.
When it is home time, we sing the afternoon song and then walk to the bus.

Walking to the bus with my friend.
On the bus
It can get pretty crowded on the bus but it is better than walking home in the hot sun. I had a great day today. I hope you enjoyed reading about it.
