One Hundred

We now have 100 likes on Facebook so this week we learnt about the number 100.


In groups we had to collect 100 things. We have been learning to count by 10s. So, we thought that the best way to count 100 things was to make ten groups of 10.

One group collected leaves. They went outside to get leaves from the trees. Then they made 10 groups with 10 leaves in each group. They counted by 10s to check they had 100 leaves.

Counting: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100!

Each group collected something different. We had to collect the items, check there were 100 and then show the class and count in front of everyone. The class then double checked we had exactly 100.

Now we know that there are 10 tens in a hundred.
We also remembered that there are 10 ones in a ten.

    We haven't written for a while because we have been on school holidays for two weeks. Do you get to have holidays?

    We liked reading about how you spend your day. We also do reading at 8:45 in the morning. We also do Art. Sometimes in Art we do painting or drawing. In maths you have been learning to count to 100. We have been learning compliments to 100. This is where you have to add two numbers together to equal 100. We think we are improving.

    We are practicing for cross country. We have to run 3km so we are spending lots of time running around the oval.

    Miss George we were very excited to see a photo of you. Mohamed was happy that your hair was still the same.

  2. Dear Room 2

    Thank you for writing to us. We have actually just been on holiday (and then the power was out for a week so we couldn't write). We have three terms each year. During the term (after about 6 or 7 weeks) we have a mid-term holiday for 4 days. Our end of term holidays are 2 weeks with a big holiday at the end of the year.

    In Maths we have been learning about friends to 10 and friends to 20 (Teacher Lauren/Miss George says that they can be called complements to 10 and 20 as well). We think we are pretty good. Asha is the friends to 10 superstar and Justis is the friends to 20 superstar. Do you have a friends to 100 superstar?

    In Science, we are learning about keeping out bodies fit and healthy. For homework, we had to do exercise. Cornelius did some lifting, Salama R ate lots of spinach (because that's good for your body), Salim practised boxing and Justis, Mariam and Sabra went for a run. 3km sounds like a long way. Maybe we could do some cross country too. How fast can you run 3km?
