Farming Fun

At our school we learn a lot about farming. Farming is very important in Tanzania because a lot of people grow their own food or grow food to sell at the market. Recently, we spent a whole Saturday at school learning about how to grow and take care of plants.

First, we used hoes to make the soil soft.
Adam using the hoe to soften the soil.
Then, we put manure on the soil.
Husna, Athumani and Mariamu spreading the manure onto the soil.
After that, we planted the capsicum seeds. Finally, we watered the soil to help the seeds grow.

We have also been reading a book called 'Farmer Duck'. It is a funny book that is also a little bit sad. It is about a lazy farmer and a very busy duck. The story has a happy ending.

We have been practising retelling a story and putting it into our own words. We remember the story better when we retell it. As a class we retold the story of 'Farmer Duck' using our own words and Teacher Leonard wrote it down for us. Then we drew pictures.

Our Week About Feet



This week we have been learning about feet. We read 'The Foot Book' by Dr Seuss. We learnt about adjectives. Adjectives tell us more about something. For example: furry feet. The word furry tells us what the feet look and feel like.




We also measured our feet. We used counters, Unifix and sticks to measure the length of our feet. Husna and Ally's feet are the longest. Maimuna and Salim's feet are the shortest. Who has the longest and shortest feet in your grade?

We also learnt about centimetres. We learnt that the symbol for centimetres is cm. For homework we traced the feet out our family. At school we measured the length of our family's feet with rulers.Some were really long and some were really short. Adam's baby brother's foot was tiny, only 6cm long. Salim and his brother had the same sized foot. Who has the longest foot in your family?
