Handa's Surprise

We read a book called Handa's Surprise. We learnt about sequencing. Sequencing is when you put a story in the right order. We had sentence strips of the story and we jumbled them up. Then we put them back in order.

We learnt some new words like antelope and tangerine. We have been practising acting in our Performing Arts class. We used the story of Handa's Surprise to make puppet shows. In our groups, we coloured in the pictures for all the characters in the story.

Then we cut out the pictures. We found sticks outside and attached the pictures to the sticks to make our puppets.

We had to choose one person from our group to so the speaking during the show. The other two people moved the puppets.

We had to sit quietly while each group performed. We all loved the part where we got to say 'TANGERINES'. Cornelius said that part really well. It was really hard to remember the whole story and tell it to the class. Our teachers said we did a great job!

Have you read the story of Handa's Surprise? We suggest you get it from your library or you can watch it on youtube.

Questions:
What is sequencing?
How did we make out puppets?
How many people were in each group?
We suggest you make a puppet show about the book you are reading in class, or a book you really love.
